HOW IT WORKS

FuenteCredito is designed to be a simple 5 step pre-approval process. At the end you will know if you are pre-approved by the financial institution you picked and applied for a loan from.

Steps to pre-approval are:

  1. Select the type of loan you will need. DACA, Citizenship or DAPA
  2. Complete the short-form to get to the lender match page
  3. Select the financial institution that best fits your needs based on the descriptions provided
  4. Complete the long form loan application and submit it for a decision
  5. Pre-approved

The pre-approval process takes minutes. The final step is to visit the financial institution, sign your loan documents and receive your check.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. Who created FuenteCredito?
FuenteCredito is brought to you by the National Council of La Raza, a national Latino civil rights organization, to make borrowing money for legal fees easy, affordable and accessible.
  2. Why should I trust FuenteCredito?
FuenteCredito is a safe and secure website that compiles loan products from FDIC-insured credit unions, Community Development Financial Institutions and online lending circles. Your personal information is never shared or sold to a third party network.
  3. What information do I need to apply?
You will need basic identity and financial information such as your address and phone number, social security number or ITIN if you have one, household income, and an identification card.
  4. How do I know if I am qualified for the loan?
Once you complete the online loan application, you will immediately find out which lenders in your area can offer you a loan product. Each lender has different criteria for applicants, so you may not pre-qualify for every product, but there will be at least one option for you.
  5. How do I receive my loan?
FuenteCredito is a tool to help you complete the application but it does not provide loans to individuals directly. You will receive the loan directly from the financial institution. You must visit the financial institution in person to receive your check, or you must complete all steps of the application process including bank account information if you are joining a lending circle with eMoneyPool.
  6. What is the maximum amount I can borrow?
The maximum amount you can borrow depends on the lending institutions in your area. Some institutions will allow you to take out a loan to cover legal service fees, and/or other fees associated with your filing, in addition to the application fee. All loan amounts must be directly related to your legal immigration application and/or services.
  7. Can I borrow for expenses not related to immigration fees?
Not currently, but you can contact a local financial institution directly for help with other loans such as car loans or mortgages. You can also ask a community-based financial coach for help finding other affordable products. FuenteCredito helps individuals pre-qualify for credit to cover the cost of immigration filing fees, such as the application and legal assistance.
  8. What are the interest rates for products accessed through FuenteCredito?
FuenteCredito refers potential borrowers to a variety of credit products depending on the criteria of the participating financial institutions. Interest rates will vary depending on various things such as your income or credit score but we believe in only referring affordable loans.
  9. How do I pay back the loan?
You must pay back the money you borrow on a monthly basis. When you review the different products, the monthly payment amount will be listed next to each one. The easiest way to make your payments is to provide bank account information so the payments can be made directly from your account. If you do not have a bank account, speak with a financial coach about other repayment options.
